According to census records, William was most likely born in Sept. 1858. He is the son of William Green Aaron, Sr. and Margaret Powell. He married Susannah Buzbee (1859-1891) in Walker County, AL, in March, 1881. They had four children: Sophronia "Fronie" (b. 1882), Charley McDaniel (1884-1962), Dennis Preston (1886-1974) and George Washington (1890-1966). His wife died about 1891. He and his children moved to Monroe County, MS, around 1896 where he sharecropped near Athens, MS. He moved to Pontotoc County, MS, around 1904. He lived with his son Dennis near Springville, MS, at the time of his death.

William had 7 full siblings: Zelphia (1846-1930), James Daniel (1847-1919), Eliza Jane (1848-1881), Mary Catherine (b. 1849), Ulsey D. (1852-1940), Sarah (1854-1920), and John Wesley (1861-1919). After the death of William's mother Margaret, his father married Jane Katherine Key (1840-1924). From that marriage, James has 5 half siblings: Docia (1874-1960), Charles R.(1875-1946), Martin Van Buren (1877-1949), Sophronia (1879-1953) and Samuel James (1882-1962).

The location of the grave of his wife Susannah is unknown but is believed to be in the Drummond Cemetery, just north of Sipsey, Alabama.
