Betty Jo (Arthur) Carroll, 86, of Parkersburg, passed away peacefully in her home on Dec. 7, 2012, and is now with the Lord.
Born March 31, 1926, in Webster Springs, W.Va., daughter of the late Rev. James Anderson and Sarah Jane Arthur.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Betty Jo graduated from Webster Springs High School in 1944, then began a long career with C&P Telephone Co., now AT&T. A firm believer in community service, she was active in the Telephone Pioneers of America, The Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, Hathor Court 3 and volunteered at Camden Clark Medical Center.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Paul F. Carroll, they enjoyed traveling together, and did so extensively after their retirement. She was also preceded in death by siblings, Ethel Furr, Mary Meyers, Anderson Arthur, Paul Arthur, Carmel Lee Pritt, Hugh Thomas Arthur, Ralph Arthur, Violet Bender, and more-brothers-than-nephews, Hale Furr Jr. and James Furr.
She is survived by her daughters, Paula Carroll Shea of Johnstown, Pa., and Pamela Jean Rubin of Parkersburg; sons-in-law, Patrick Shea and Rick Rubin; granddaughter, Hannah Marie Rubin; sisters, Flora Belle Martin and Anna Jane Crouse; dear friend, Naomi Rubin Echard; and cherished friends and members of her extended family, many of whom still gather on the former Arthur farm on the Back Fork of the Elk River to reconnect. Though frail in health, Betty Jo attended her last reunion there only months ago.
The family would like to thank TLC In Home Care for the expert and loving assistance they provided Betty Jo, including Cindy Andrews Deem, Missy Buskirk, Cheryl Cox, Stephanie Flanagan, Minnie Joy, Joanne Rogers and Steve Deem. Also thanks to Buddy the cat (deceased), and Daisy the dog, who provided what only good animals can.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
