HANNIBAL - George H. Pace, 88, of Hannibal, died at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005, at Beth Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Pastor Paul O. Bond will officiate. Burial, with full military rites by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post 55, will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.. Friday, Sept. 9, at the funeral home.
Mr. Pace was born Nov. 21, 1916, in Crystal Lake, Ill., to George and Lillian Hungerford Pace.
He was married to Dazzie Rosser on April 16, 1944, in Hannibal. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, Ernest R.C. Evenson of Acworth, Ga.; one sister, Miriam Dollins of the state of California; two grandchildren, Kimberly Garrett and Jennifer Painter; two sisters-in-law, Esther Key of Hannibal and True Vaughn of Fort Worth, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, John Pace.
Mr. Pace served as a Missouri State Representative for three terms. In the past he had owned and operated the Windsor Hotel in Hannibal, then later retired from the Hannibal Chamber of Commerce. He was active in the Salvation Army and was a member of many local civic organizations including the Evening Kiwanis for more than 50 years, Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post 55, and Historic Hannibal Inc. In the past, he headed the Hannibal Library Board. Mr. Pace was a graduate of the University of Illinois. He served in the U.S. Air Force for five years during World War II, earning the rank of 1st lieutenant. He was a member of First United Methodist Church for more than 50 years.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, in care of James O'Donnell Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Fred Helbing, Tim Helbing, Jesse Ogle, Norval Lott and Charles Anton.
