Upon his discharge from the army, Max worked as an independent trucker hauling Boston Whaler boats and steel throughout the US. In later years he also worked as a farmer and in the used car business. In his younger years, Max enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and crabbing in the Chesapeake Bay. He had a lifelong fondness for horses and in the last years of his life spent his winters in Dade City, FL living beside a horse track where he could watch other "snowbirds" train and race their horses.

The funeral and burial will be private.

The family would like to thank the staff of Golden Living Center, Transitions Healthcare and AseraCare Hospice for their support and would especially like to thank the staffs of the Veteran's Administration outpatient clinic in York and the Lebanon VA Hospital Hospice.
