Frederick was a Civil War Veteran. Frederick was 22 years of age when he enlisted in the Union Army on, August 22,1862. On September 4, 1862 he mustered into " F " Company Ohio 126th Infantry. On March 15,1864 Fred was transferred to " D " Company VRC 24th. Frederick was mustered out on June 27, 1865, in Washington, DC. Frederick was a honor guard at President Lincoln's funeral. Frederick Roof, 85, died October 21 at his home in Dellroy. He was born November 28, 1841. He was a son of Frederick and Sarah (Albaugh) Roof. He lived 71 years on the homestead taken up from the government by his father in
1812. In 1862 he enlisted at Carrollton in Company F, 126th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, serving as a private in the Civil War. He took part in the Battle of the Wilderness and many other engagements. He had the honor of being a guard over the body of President Lincoln. In 1865 he was honorably discharge and returned home. In 1867 he was untied in marriage to Sarah Ann Tressel. He
leaves his wife and the following children: Daniel I., Grover C. and Mrs. Ada Hoobler, of Canton; Mrs. W. W. Beatty, of East Liverpool; Emmett C., William H., Alfred L. and Lewis F., of Dellroy. Maude Pearl died when but 2 years old.
In early life he joined the Union Valley Methodist Protestant Church, latter transferring his membership to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. After moving to
Dellroy he joined the Methodist Episcopal Church, of which he was a member at death. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Dellroy Methodist Episcopal church. Burial was at Magnolia.
