Dorothy Doan Arbury, age 91 years of Midland passed away Monday, December 10, 2012 at her home. Dorothy was born September 5, 1921 in Midland to the late Leland I. and Ruth (Dow) Doan. She attended Midland Elementary schools and then was enrolled in Kingswood School Cranbrook a private boarding school in Bloomfield Hills. Dorothy was predeceased by husbands, 1st Lieutenant Raymond Rode' (1941-1944) whom was killed in action in 1944 and Parker Frisselle (1947-1963) before marrying Ned Arbury in 1965 who also predeceased her September 5, 1998.

Dorothy spent her entire life working on behalf of the home community that she loved; understanding that her position carried great responsibilities for helping others. Dorothy impacted many of the wonderful things that have happened in Midland, although she was very low key and often anonymous in helping the area arts, community centers and 4-H.

She served on the Board of Directors for Panax-Radio Station, the Knight Ridder, Contemporary Review Club, DeltaCollege and the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation. She served on the Board of Control of SVSU and established the ArburyFineArtsBuilding along with the Fredericks Sculpture Gallery. She also volunteered with the Red Cross during WWII and volunteered on the Board of Directors for the Salvation Army. In 2005, seeking to pay homage to their father, she and her brother Ted Doan created the Leland Ira Doan Research Professorship in Vascular Surgery. Dorothy enjoyed annual winter getaways via cruises to the Far East and Little DixBay in the British Virgin Islands.

She is survived by her son, Bradford (M.Teresa) Frisselle of Aspen, Colorado; daughter, Carole (William) Cassio of Boulder, Colorado; grandchildren, Nan (Declan) Hanson O'Hare of Portland, Oregon, Lee (Jayme) Hanson of Manhattan Beach, California, Stephanie Frisselle of Santa Monica, California, Bradford "Burt" Frisselle and Brian Frisselle both of Aspen, Colorado; great grandchildren, Max O'Hare, Ada O'Hare and Reagan Hanson. Her brothers, Herbert "Ted" Doan and Leland Doan, Jr. also predeceased her.
