Der Nord Westen, 29 Aug. 1889: "Death of Mr. Edward Schindler yesterday evening, 28 Aug. after a long illness. He was born 15 Sept. 1835 in Münsterberg in the Prussian Province of Schlesia. He was a veteran of the Civil War and served 3 yrs. in Company 'A', 5th Wisconsin Regiment, serving with that regiment at Gettysburg, The Wilderness, Fair Oaks, Spottsylvania Court House, and other battles. He leaves a widow and 7 children. Burial will be Sat. morning at 9 a.m. at the Catholic Church."
