Augusta May Grimm was the daughter of Joseph & Margaret Grimm. According to the 1875 NYS census she had a twin brother named John, and they, and all of their siblings, were born in Ulster County, New York.
Regarding her birth date:
Her gravestone states that she was born in 1865.
She and her twin brother are NOT in the 1865 NYS census that was taken as of 1 Jun 1865.
In the 1875 NYS census that was taken as of 1 Jun 1875, it states that she and her twin brother were 9 on their last birthday.
The 1900 census states she was born July 1864. [This census is frequently in error by one year.]
Therefore the conclusion is that her birth date was likely in July 1865.
On 11 Jun 1884, Augusta married Charles Dohnken in Rondout, Ulster County, New York.
They had four children. Their names and dates of birth on the 1900 census were:
Carrie Dohnken - b June 1885
William Dohnken - b July 1886
Frederick Dohnken - b Nov 1887
Jennie Dohnken - b Jan 1889
In 1900, the family was living at 21 New Street, which is a little dead-end street around the corner from Montrepose Cemetery.
The last time that the family is all together in a census is the 1905 NYS census.
In the 1910 census, Augusta and Charles are each listed as married but they are not living together. Charles is living as a Boarder on E Strand street. Augusta is living with the three youngest children at 37 Park St. (Their daughter Carrie had married Simon O Dixon on 24 Nov 1908 in Kingston, NY.)
By 1912, Augusta and Charles have divorced and Augusta is now married to Neil Pierce and living in the Binghamton, NY, area. Neil and Gussie are shown as husband and wife in the 1915 NYS Census, living in Union, Broome County, NY. Neil and Gussie/Augusta are listed as husband and wife in the Endicott City Directories for 1912, 1914, 1917, 1918, and 1919. However, Augusta is also in the 1919 Kingston City Directory, listed at Mrs Neil Pierce, at 35 Hemlock Ave. She is living with her daughter and son-in-law, Carrie and Simon Dixon. It appears that she already knew she was sick and had moved back to Kingston and moved in with her oldest child. Augusta May Pierce died on 12 Oct 1919 in Kingston, NY, and is buried in Montrepose Cemetery, Section K-2, Lot 59 (Neil Pierce Lot).
On 13 Nov 1927, Augusta's 2nd husband, Neil Pierce, committed suicide while visiting his stepdaughter, Mrs. Simon O Dixon. He is buried in the same lot as Augusta.
On 8 Jan 1944, Augusta's 1st husband, Charles H Dohnken, died in Kingston, NY. His is buried in the same lot as Augusta and her 2nd husband Neil Pierce.
