Undismayed and living difficultly the patriachist(?) E.A. Erwin awaited with some anticipation the fulfillment of his Christian hope. The end came about one-thirty Sunday morning, July 20th at the home of his son Dick Erwin about five miles south of Elida.
Eugene A. Erwin was born in Kansas City, Mo. February 28, 1859. He was married to Mollie Susan Douglas in 1880. To this union were born ten children, two of whom do not survive. A complete list of the living children and other survivors will be published by this paper if submitted.
The Record knows Audrey of Houston, Texas, Dick of Elida, Burl of Roswell, Eugene of Lovington, Hugh, a peace officer of Roswell died at least a year ago at Roswell. Another son, a Nazarene minister occasionally visited the parents at Elida. "Dad" Erwin has been a minister of the gospel many years. Bible truths and scripture was a seven day a week hobby with him. This departed brother was a hard worker in dairying and farming. Up to a comparatively short time ago he still sold milk and garden products in Elida.
His last illness began in Texas, but respecting his urgent desire his son Dick brought him to Elida where he apparently wished to end his days.
Mr. Erwin was an outstanding character along that most important department of humanity--our religion.
His funeral was a large one. Interment was made in Elida cemetery Sunday afternoon.
