John Rufus Benson, pioneer Shamrock business man, died Monday, December 19, at the age of 94.
Mr. Benson moved to Shamrock from Mangum, OK and established a hardware and furniture company in February 1925, which became Benson Hardware and Furniture inn 1937. His son, Lyman Benson, took over the management of the company in the early 1960s. Mr. Benson continued a keen interest in the business until his death.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 929, the York Rite and Eastern Star.
Mr. Benson was born in Sebastian County, Arkansas, June 21, 1889. He was married to Eula Gray Anderson in 1914, at Wellington. She died in 1981.
