Many Galion acquaintances will be pained to learn of the death of Mrs E B Finley of Bucyrus, which occurred at the Monnett hospital in that city Saturday. She was a prominent leader in church and society club circles, and the widow of General E B Finley, for many years the most conspicuous member of the county bar, and adjutant general under Governor Hadley’s administration.
The accomplishments of Mrs Finley in club work were most phenomenal. She has for years been recognized as the mother of some of Bucyrus’ leading clubs of today. To Mrs FInley goes the credit of organizing of the first literary club in Bucyrus, the New era club, the Society of Round Table later merged into what is now known as the North Side Reading Circle and various other small organizations. Mrs Finley with the cooperation and help of Mrs Susan Kearsley organized the Crocus club. She was also a charter member of the Current events club of the Eastern Star of which she was one of the pioneer Worthy Matrons, and of recent years a member of Angelius Circle King’s Daughters.
In church activities Mrs Finley was one of the leading lady workers of the Presbyterian church and was a charter member of the first Women’s Missionary society in Bucyrus which originally was formed in the Methodist church. When a similar organization was formed in the Presbyterian church Mrs Finley promptly became its leading supporter. She also served as secretary for many years of the women’s societies of her church.
