Army Spc. Hubbell was assigned to Company B, 46th Engineer Battalion, Fort Rucker, Alabama as a carpenter and masonry specialist. Hubbell died from a non-combat related cause at Camp Arifjan. He suddenly experienced breathing difficulties with pneumonia-like symptoms (under investigation). Hubbell enlisted in the Army in June 2001 after graduating from Urbana High School. He attended basic training and combat engineering training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and was assigned to Fort Rucker on Nov. 5, 2001. During his two years of service to the nation Hubbell was awarded the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon. Corey was a very friendly, likable young man who looked at the Army as personal development and training, and also as service to his country. He was fun, energetic and loved playing baseball. He was a good pitcher and third baseman.
