Berry was the son of John Abner, Sr. and Fannie Walden Abner. He left a wife, Geneva Abner, and a daughter, Fannie Abner. As of this writing (Feb. 2013) he has a surviving sister, Sadie Abner Patrick age 92, in Hamilton, OH.
