Thelma L. Martin, 76, of Columbia died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Fairview United Methodist Church, 3200 Chapel Hill Road, with the Rev. Bobbie Stone officiating. Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery. Visitation will follow the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home.

Mrs. Martin was born May 6, 1925, in Columbia, to Jesse Monroe and Mabel Hartwig Rice.

She married Lester Martin on Sept. 7, 1942, in Columbia, and he preceded her in death.

She was a graduate of Hickman High School and worked for Silvey Insurance Co. until her retirement in 1987. She volunteered for the Central Missouri Food Bank Pantry, The Wardrobe and the Show-Me State Games T-shirt committee. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Missions Committee, Covenant Group, Flickering Flames and Mary Martha Circle. She was also a member of the Silvey Retirement Group. In recent years, she had worked for University of Missouri-Columbia registration.

Survivors include two sons, Greg Martin of Clearwater, Fla., and David Martin of Columbia; two brothers, Grover Rice of Detroit and Estill Rice of Ashland; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Alta Hudnell.
