Dec 1923 OBIT: b. 7 Mar 1858 in Auerich (NOTE: Aurich) , Province Hanover, Germany. At age of 8, came to US w/ parents who settled in Peoria, IL. Here, confirmed to Christian faith, being baptized in Germany. In 1876, m. H. H. Tammen and the next yr. moved to Ashkum, IL where they have lived for about 20 yrs. From there, they moved to a farm w. of Gilman, where they've been the last 27 yrs. During the past 3 yrs., she had occasional attacks of ill health. About 2 mo. ago, she suffered another attack of heart disease, which with dropsy, resulted in her death on Fri., 7 Dec at 3:50a.m. at age 65 yr 9 mos. at home on the farm west of Gilman. Funeral was Sun. at Zion Lutheran in Gilman, conducted by Rev. J. Paul Goebel. Burial was in Wenger Cem.

Survived by husband, 9 children: Herman, Johanna Seibring, Anna Saathoff, Henry, Lena Creswell, Louise (Mrs. Henry) Vieregge of MN, William, Carl & Fred. 3 sisters: Mrs. Wm. Sardison (Peoria), Mrs. Henry Wulff and Mrs. Catherine Robertson (NOTE: Kate from Chicago?). Brother: Bernhardt Schmidt. 25 grandchildren.
