Alice B. Huntsman, 81

Alice B. Huntsman, 81, of Hagerstown, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

Born Jan. 12, 1931, in Harmony, Md., she was the daughter of Helen I. Baker Brandenburg, Myersville, and the late Charles Albert Brandenburg.

Alice was a member of Harmony Church of the Brethren, graduated from MHS with the class of 1948 and retired after 20 years with the Department of Defense.

She traveled abroad extensively with her first husband, the late Robert Clyde Smith, during his career and also with the Department of Defense.

Robert preceded Alice in death in 1998.

She loved gardening, reading, nature, was very athletic, an avid golfer and had a special love for animals.

Surviving Alice are two daughters, Valli Ritchie and husband, Ronald, of Madison Heights, Va., and Vicki Jo McBee and husband, Joseph, of Leesburg, Va.; seven grandchildren, Branden Ritchie and wife, Tricia, Camden Ritchie, Amber Ritchie, Alex Ritchie, Aubrey Torres and wife, Mary, Emily Griffith and husband, Jon, and Brian Torres; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Marvin O. Brandenburg and wife, Betty, Orrtanna, Pa.; and four sisters, Nadine Runkles, Patsy McGaha, Linda Brandenburg and Noreen Arvin and husband, Charles, all of Myersville.

Also preceding Alice in death was one brother, Auty Brandenburg; and her second husband, Frank Huntsman.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Harmony Church of the Brethren, Brethren Church Road, Myersville, with the Rev. Paul Leatherman III officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Burial will be in Harmony Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Harmony Church of the Brethren, 3924 Brethren Church Road, Myersville, MD 21773; or the Washington County Humane Society, 13011 Maugansville Road, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
