BATTING, George E. (Eddie), 91, of Wintersville, OH, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Life Line Hospital.
He was born Feb. 14, 1921, in Crafton, PA, a son of the late Charles and Florence Carson Batting.
He was a member of Wintersville U.M. Church; Methodist Men; Wednesday Morning Breakfast Group; 25-Year Club and Steubenville High School Class of 1940.
George retired from Weirton Steel Co. Tin Mill and was a WWII Army veteran. Preceding him in death were two sons, Ralph in 1988 and David in 2011; stepmother, Margaret Foley Batting and brother, Charles Batting.
For many years, George and Minnie handcrafted homemade ornaments for children at the church.
George is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Minnie V. Chappell Batting, whom he married Aug. 23, 1943; special daughter, Mariann Nelson of New Philadelphia; sister, Dorothea (Ralph) See of NC; stepsister Betty Foley of Steubenville; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home in Wintersville on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Bob Welch officiating. Burial at Fort Steuben.
Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will conduct services at cemetery chapel.
