Born near Louisville, Ky. Married Nancy Jones Lourence Dec 17, 1833. Came to IL from Calloway Co., Ky in 1850 and moved to Johnson Co. in 1853. He was a doctor and Baptist minister. Pastor of Cedar Creek Baptist Church 17 yrs. Lived on the same farm continuously near Ozark, IL. He was #3 of nine children. Parents were Wm. H. van Cleve (Cleave) Jr. and Elizabeth Frost van Cleve.
