"Mrs. Ada Knowles Bartholomew, aged 75, of Richfield Springs RD 1, died at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, Sunday evening, December 11, following an illness of four months. Mrs. Bartholomew was born in Tennessee on October 12, 1891, the daughter of James D. and Elizabeth Knowles. She was married to Norman Bartholomew on July 17, 1938, and they lived their married years in Springfield Center, and Cooperstown. Mr. Bartholomew died April 2, 1958. The couple lived on Thurston Hill, where they operated a poultry and garden farm. For the past five years, she had been the housekeeper for Ralph Ellsworth of Cooperstown. Mrs. Bartholomew was a member of the Springfield Center Baptist Church. She leaves two brothers, John A. Knowles of Huntingdon, Tenn. and James E. Knowles of Downers Grove, Ill.; a step-daughter, Mrs. Verna Blank of Sunbury, Pa. and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins, living in Illinois and Tennessee. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14, from the Ingalls Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Clyde Russell, pastor of the Springfield Center Baptist Church, officiating. Interment was in the Springfield Center Cemetery. At the request of the deceased in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society."
