BARABOO/PORTAGE — Leon G. Auck, age 85, of Baraboo, died peacefully with his family surrounding him on Friday, December I, 2000, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. Leon Auck was born on January 26, 1915, in Coleharbor, North Dakota, the son of Gottlieb and Rosin (Holzworth) Auck. In November 1934, he was married to Lydia Sullivan in North Dakota. Leon owned and operated Leon’s Pure Oil Gas Station in downtown Portage, and the Speedway Gas Station and Restaurant. He also worked for Raemisch Construction. Leon was a member of Operating Engineers Local No. 139. He is survived by his seven children; 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; a special friend; a brother, Albert; two sisters, Caroline and Delores; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lydia Auck, on September 26, 1995; his sons, Marvin, Larry and Gary; three grandsons, Terry, Todd and Tim Conkle; three brothers, Eugene, Elmer and Adam; and two sisters, Irene Stephens and Leona Larson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2000, at PFLANZ MANTEY MENDRALA FUNERAL HOME in Portage, with the Rev. Erie Silberschmidt officiating. Burial will follow in Newport Cemetery, township of Newport.
