Jazz Pianist, Composer & Educator

Ken began his journey playing Piano and Saxophone while in high school. He became interested in Jazz at a young age which became the foundation for his life. As a teen he was one of the founders of the after hours club named "Yardbird Suite" that still showcases jazz groups from around the world.

Eventually moving to the midwest of the United States and finally nesting in Chicago Illinois he continued to compose and work with jazz greats. Ken was a founding member of AACM (Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians) while still having the energy to perform with the likes of Milt Jackson, Donald Byrd, Eddie Harris, Clark Terry, Houston Person, Slide Hampton, David Fat-head Newman and others.

While touring and recording with Young-Holt Unlimited "Soulful Strut" became a hit record which led to performances at Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, Apollo Theatre, Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and major clubs and concerts throughout the United States and Canada.

After Young-Holt, Ken formed "The Awakening" and recorded three albums for Black Jazz Records - "Hear, Sense & Feel" "Mirage" and "Brand New Feeling" the albums received strong critical approval.

The group has appeared at the Ravinia Jazz Festival and throughout Chicago, the Midwest, Europe and Singapore and in concert with Miles Davis, Roy Ayers, Natalie Cole, Angela Bofield, Dianne Reeves, Nancy Wilson and others.
