Daniel Grosz Jr. was born in South Russia in 1869. At the age of 8, he came to this country with his parents and they settled in Scotland, South Dakota. In 1892, he married Magdaline Schlechter and again with his parents moved to Kulm, North Dakota. Here he started a general merchandise store with his brother, Godfrey and father. They were the parents of Clara Grosz, the first child born in Kulm on December 20, 1893. He was very active in local and civic affairs. He helped build and was a charter member of the First Congregational Church. He also took part on the city council and school and township boards. Mrs. Grosz (Magdalena Schlechter) died in 1910, leaving her husband and 10 children. Daniel Grosz married Wilhelmina Tobler in June, 1911.
