Peter and Rachel Elizabeth Scott were married November 16, 1865 at Marion County, Iowa and were the parents of seven children: Jairus S., Charles W., Alta M., Mary Inez, Nellie Lydelia, Jennie Myrtle and John.

Peter was a veteran of the Civil War.
