Kurt was born in Duderstadt, Germany, the youngest son of Siegfried and Henriette Ballin.
Kurt was married to Grete Winter and they had a son Rolf and a daughter, Ruth Sophie. Both women were murdered by the nazis. Rolf survived the Holocaust.
Kurt escaped from Germany following deportation and became ill while serving for the British in the war. He died of that illness at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington.
