MRS. E.S. NORTH DIES WEDNESDAY
PIONEER RESIDENT PASSES AWAY IN HACKLEY HOSPITAL, MUSKEGON
"Mrs. Susie Drake North passed away in Hackley hospital, Muskegon, on Wednesday, July 24, following an operation for a fractured hip which was the result of a fall at the home of her sister, Mrs. Ella Ressigue, in Hesperia four weeks ago. She was in Gerber hospital two weeks for treatment and from there she went to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lulu Smith, who cared for her for two weeks. She was 83 years old June 13.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian church in Hesperia. Rev. Clyde E. Pickett, pastor of the local Church of Christ, officiated. Interment took place in West cemetery, Hesperia. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful.
The Drake family moved from Berrien County, Michigan, in 1860, making the trip in a covered wagon drawn by a team of oxen. Mrs. North was a rural mail carrier out of Hesperia for a time.
On October 17, 1867, she was married to Elisha North and to this union seven children were born, three of whom survive. They are Mrs. Mattie Hewitt of Fremont, Mrs. Hattie Bowers of Big Bay and Mrs. Lulu Smith of Muskegon.
Mrs. North was a member of the Fremont Church of Christ and was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Hesperia for more than 50 years. Mr. North passed away 13 years ago and since then she has made her home in Fremont with Mrs. Hewitt."
