EAST SPRINGFIELD — Mrs. Ida R. Richards, 66, passed away Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born May 27, 1932, in Cooperstown, the daughter of Burrell and Phyllis (Gray) Root.


On April 26, 1987, she married Arnold Richards in Binghamton. He survives.


Mrs. Richards had worked for the Otsego County Department of Social Services, Cooperstown. She was a member of the Woman's Legion Auxiliary, Red Cross Chairperson, CSEA Treasurer, and the secretary of Springfield Alumni.


Mrs. Richards is survived by her husband, Arnold L. Richards of East Springfield; a sister, Hannah Cary of Schuyler Lake; and her mother, Phyllis Ostrander of the Meadows.


She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Root; and a sister, Freida Charnin.


Contributions in Mrs. Richards memory may be made to the Red Cross, or American Cancer Society.


Cremation took place at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley.


A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at the Presbyterian Church, East Springfield, with Mr. Lyman Johnson officiating. Burial will take place in the Springfield Cemetery, Springfield Center, at a later date.


There will be no public calling hours.


Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.
