Son of LTC Ret. Wallace Millard Austin and Mable Eugenia Chapman Austin. He has deep roots in Greenville, South Carolina. His maternal grandparents were Eugene Chapman and Mamie Darby Chapman; his maternal great grandparents were Benjamin Franklin Darby and Susan Cothran; his paternal great grandparents were George Washington Chapman and Sisley Frances Darby Chapman. Both his Darby and Chapman Acestors arrived in Virginia and Maryland then moving into South Carolina in the late 1600s and early 1700s settling in South Carolina. Many of them were patriots of the Revolutionary War and then the War Between the States and have served in all the wars since.
