Jane Gray was born to John and Mary Gray on November 1, 1853 in California. John was from England, while Mary was from Ireland. The family moved to Coloma and is mentioned in the 1860 census. John being a farmer.

By December 25, 1876, Jane married Albert Bertelsen, a native of Denmark. The couple were married by Rev. C.C. Pierce in Coloma.

On December 2, 1890, Jane died; causes unknown. She was taken to Phillip Siebenthaler's residence on 20th Street (between H & I streets) for her funeral. Later her body was buried at the Masonic Cemetery (adjacent to the Sac City Cemetery). Just one year later her husband joined her at the cemetery, after he was killed in an explosion on his property.

They now rest side by side, together.
