She was a pianist, composer and teacher, aged 82.

According to her obituary in the June 15, 1995 New York Times she died at her home. Her original name was Beula Duffey. She changed her name to Johana Harris after marrying the famous composer Roy Harris in 1937. He died in 1979. She changed her name as a tribute to Johann Sebastian Bach.

Per her death certificate her Mother's madien name was Coughlin. Her father's maiden name was Duffey.

She married for a second time in 1982. According to Wikipedia.com her second husband was Jake Heggie. After doing some research on Ancestry.com I found a copy of a marriage record showing her marrying a John S. Heggie. He was 21 years of age and she was 68 years of age at the time of the marriage on Dec. 18, 1982 in Los Angeles. Per the California State File # 150022.

She had a biography written titled, Johana Harris: A Biography by Ethel Paquin

Her parents names were Claude & Laura Duffey. At the age of 17 Beula became the youngest person in the history of Juilliard to become a faculty member. She was nicknamed the "Belle of Juilliard".

She also had a number of radio appearances over a two year period on "CBS Sunday". On this program she performed two-piano concertos with Ernest Hutcheson who was her teacher.

In 1935 she met Roy Harris at Juilliard where he was also a teacher. He was married at that time but feel in love with Beula and eventually divorced his wife and eloped with Beula on October 10, 1936 in Union, Oregon.
