Peggy Darlene Fickes, 79, Altoona, died Sunday at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a brief illness.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Daniel and Wealthy (Rush) Bowers. She married Charles Frederick Fickes on Sept. 5, 1950, in Westminster, Va. He died April 3, 1983.

Surviving are seven children: Boyd (Tonya) Fickes of Janesville, Ray (Marsena) Fickes of Hollidaysburg, Dave (Robin) Fickes of Arvada, Colo., Rich (companion, Teresa) Fickes of Tyrone, Rob Fickes of Altoona, Darlene (Mike) McCloskey of Tyrone and Pam Fickes of Altoona; a stepdaughter, Barbara Dewey of Westfield, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dan Bowers of Altoona.

She was preceded in death by a son, Nelson Fickes; a grandson, Landon Fickes; a stepson, Ed Fickes; and six siblings: Cleona Siters, Dorothy Parks, Helen Parks, Don Bowers, Jack Bowers and Faye Brady.

Mrs. Fickes was a homemaker. She was of the Protestant faith.

Peggy enjoyed her two dogs and selling Avon products.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, with Pastor Peggy Bonsell officiating.

Interment will be in Carson Valley Cemetery, Duncansville.
