Son of Henry Bates, and husband of Marie and Dorothy. Carl lived most of his life in Cooper County Missouri. Was employed for more than 36 years with the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Was married to Helen Marie Friedrich in 1950 until her death in 1968. They had three daughters: Karen, Carla and Carol. In 1969 he married Dorothy Simmons Paris. Carl was a very decorated World War II veteran. Possibly the most decorated World War II vet in Cooper County. He was awarded seven Bronze stars and a Good Conduct Medal.
