Walter Malcolm Barrett, 85

Mr. Walter Malcolm Barrett, 85 of the Centertown community died Thursday, Aug. 31 at his home.

Born Jan. 22, 1921 in Cannon County, he was a retired assembly line operator with Carrier Air Conditioning and a member of Center Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Barrett was preceded in death by his parents Wiley Gray and Bonnie Gay (Fann) Barrett; brothers Fred Gray, Brandley James, Oscar, and Douglas Barrett; and sons in law Billy E. Prater and Bobby M. Hutchins.

Survivors include his wife Nancy Namomi Smith Barrett of McMinnville; daughter June Prater, daughters and sons in law Bonnie and Lane Elkins, Faye Hutchins and Billy Cunningham, Louree and Sammy Walker; son and daughter in law, Leo and Teresa Barrett, all of McMinnville; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren; and sister Doris Murphy of Hartsville.

Funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at McMinnville Funeral Chapel. Bro. Greg Mitchell and Bro. John Padgett will afficiate. Interment will follow at Center Hill Cemetery in Cannon County. The Barrett family will receive friends Saturday from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. and again on Sunday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home.
