Edna Elizabeth "Mickey" McCormick, LCDR, MSC USNR, age 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1985, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2003 at the Manzano del Sol Health Care Center. Edna is survived by nieces, nephews and their extended families. Mickey was born on March 12, 1916 in the state of Ohio and spent much of her youth in Washington state. Edna enlisted in the USNR (WR) on October 2, 1942 at Tacoma, Washington. Edna was commissioned ENS HC USNR in September of 1943, was released to inactive duty in 1945, recalled in October 1950 and retired May 1, 1968. Edna was a graduate of Bowling Green College in Ohio and a registered Medical Technologist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. Edna served as a Blood Bank Specialist aboard the hospital ship USS Repose for 18 months during the Vietnam War. Her awards include the American Theater, WWII Victory, and National Defense Service (2- Korea-Vietnam) medals. Edna was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, the Waves National, the Franciscan Secular Order and the Franciscan Secular Institute of the Missionaries of the Kingship of Christ. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery Mausoleum, with Father Cecil Kleber, OFM, Celebrant. Entombment, with military honors, will follow in the mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the charity of your choice or to Manzano del Sol Dining Services Expansion.
