Deceased Name: Edward J. Jilek, 41

SPOKANE, Wash. - Edward J. Jilek, 41, of Spokane, died unexpectedly in his home on April 9, 1999. Born April 24, 1957, in Birchwood, Wis., son of John V. and Kathryn (Murphy) Jilek. Moved to Seward with his family in 1967. Graduated from Winnebago High School in 1975 as a member of National Honor Society. Graduated cum laude from University of Minnesota in 1979. Married Jean Zbaracki on Aug. 15, 1981, in Duluth, Minn. Joined U.S. Air Force in 1979. Participated in Persian Gulf War and was promoted to captain. At the time of his death he was a major with Air National Guard. He had lived with his wife and son, Gregory, in Spokane for the last ten years. A member of Seward 4-H club for many years, he excelled in gardening and won many awards at the Winnebago County Fair. He will be remembered for his great smile and friendly manner. Enjoyed fishing and camping, especially with his son. He collected exotic plants from his travel in many foreign countries. Next to his family, his great love was flying.

Survivors include wife, Jean, son Gregory, both of Spokane, mother, Kathryn Jilek; two brothers, John Jilek, both of Birchwood, Wis., and Jeff (Kathy) Jilek of Davis; sister, Libby (Lon) Myers of Rock City, several nieces and nephews including Ashley and Megan Jilek, and Helen and Carrie Meyers. Predeceased by father, John in Oct. 1989, grandparents, John and Ann Jilek, and Thomas and Irene Murphy.

Military funeral was held at St. Charles Catholic Church in Spokane, April 15. Memorial and burial of cremains will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery, Birchwood, at a later date.
