Dr. Gene was warm and caring. He always had a kind word for the parents and would make the children giggle. Whenever he would look into the childrens' ears, he found "red feathers" in them. Big Bird lived up their noses. I remember him asking me once what kind of milk did my daughter drink? I responded whole milk. Thank God! he says. Children need some fat in their diets and too many parents are going overboard with that.
Dr. Gene had a quick wit and a laugh that was infectious. Through the years, my insurance would change but my pediatrician would not. I gladly paid from my own pocket for my children to continue to see him, whether he was part of the new plan or not.
Dr. Gene is survived by his brothers and every child he helped raise. I must also mention his fur kids, his beloved dogs. He was not only a great doctor, he was a great friend. His battle with pancreatic cancer ended on December 20.
Rest in peace, Dr. Gene.
