US Congressman. A native of New Hampshire, he graduated from Dartmouth College in 1833, and was admitted to the New Hampshire State Bar in 1836. He moved to Missouri in 1838, and set up a successful law practice in the city of Lexington. He would rise to the position of circuit court judge after many years as a circuit court attorney. He was elected as an Independent Democrat to represent Missouri's 8th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1879 to 1881.
