Officer Davis was killed when his vehicle was struck during a pursuit involving the Washington State Patrol. Officer Davis had just gotten off duty and was leaving the police station parking lot in his personal vehicle. He then observed the pursuit and attempted to block the intersection to assist the officers. He had just been notified of the pursuit on his emergency pager when the suspect vehicle collided into his vehicle.

The suspect was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He was convicted of the charge and sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Officer Davis had been with the agency for 29 years and is survived by his wife and two sons.

From a 14 May 1995 obituary: He graduated from Seattle's Lincoln High School in 1960 as a basketball star and all-around athlete. He attended Central Washington University on a basketball scholarship, then transferred to the University of Washington. He joined the Seattle Police Department 31 Jan 1966. He coached his son's baseball team and never missed a game.
