Lone Oak Woman
Died in Lubbock

Mrs. Mary F. Payne, 67, long time resident of the Lone Oak community passed away last night about 9 0'clock at the home of her son, Nathan Payne in Lubbock where she was visiting. The body will be brought to this city and will arrive late night or early tomorrow and will be carried direct to Lone Oak where funeral arrangements will be made.
Born in Glasgow, Kentucky on January 8, 1867, Mrs. Payne moved to Texas with her parents when she was a small child and settled in the Lone Oak community. She was married to Henry Payne and they lived north of Lone Oak practically all of their married life.
She was one of the most beloved women of Lone Oak section and had hundreds of friends who will be grieved to learn of her death. Mrs. Payne was a sister of Mrs. P. C. White of Greenville and often visited this city. She had many friends here who will join the bereaved relatives in mourning her death.
For years Mrs. Payne had been a member of the Methodist church and had lived true to the teachings of the Master.
Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Ed. Moxley of Ropes, Texas; John Payne of Spur; Nathan Payne of Lubbock; Miss Sue Payne of Lone Oak; Lewis Payne of Lone Oak; Mrs. Jim Bailey of Lubbock; Mrs. Myrtle Crow of Haskell; Arlon Payne of Lubbock. She is also survived by her 90 year old father, W. W. Slemmons of Lone Oak, two brothers, Lewis Slemmons of Abernathy and John Slemmons of Mineral Wells and three sisters, Mrs. J. C. White of Greenville; Mrs. A. J. Broyles, El Dorado, Okla., and Mrs. J. D. Barton, Amarillo. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as several half brothers and sisters also survive.
