Gretchen and her twin sister Florence were born in Marion, Flathead, Montana on October 7, 1915 to Bonnell Marie Kelsey. They were raised in this very rural area their entire childhood. Gretchen eventually married a man named Harold W. Crandall with whom she had two sons, Barry and James. She had a very active life and she retired in Carson City, Nevada were she stay the remainder of her life.
