Mrs. Martha Knappenberger, widow of the late Moses Knappenberger, one of the oldest and most highly esteemed ladies of the community, died at her home 207 N. 2nd St., Friday morning at 7:40 o'clock, age 79 years, three months and two days. Mrs. Knappenberger spent practically her entire life in this community and was known by almost everybody in the community. Mr. and Mrs. Knappenberger for residents of this community many years before Jeannette was founded and owned a farm adjoining the Glass City. The Pennsylvania Rubber Company's plant stands on the side of the old Knappenberger Homestead. Mrs. Knappenberger was a lifelong and consistent member of the Reformed church and during her lingering illness never wavered in her devotion to her Master. Funeral services were conducted Sabbath afternoon at 2 o'clock in Grace Reformed Church, by her pastor, Rev. J. N. Bauman, assisted by Rev. J. J. Brubeck, pastor of the Lutheran Church. The choir rendered a number of favorite selections. The church was crowded to the divorce with sympathizing friends who came to pay their last respects to this aged mother in Israel. Interment took place in the brush Creek Cemetery under the direction of A. B. Miller and Son.
