He fought in the Civil War on the Union side.He was the son of John Thompson Ferguson and Sarah Robbins. He married Hiantha Fickes in 1866 at Coles County, Illinois. Her parents were Samuel Fickes and Esther Irwin.
Hiantha and Joseph separated in about 1903 at Newkirk, Kay, Oklahoma.
There was also a daughter, Minnie A. Ferguson, born either 1873 or 1875 in Richland County, Wisconsin. She married a man by the last name of Scott, and by 1910, had divorced him. In 1910 she lived with her mother in Denver, Colorado. She died between the years of 1910 and 1917, but I have never found out where or when, or where she is buried.
