Bob King was born December 4, 1928 in Caldwell, Kansas. The family returned to Los Angeles 2 months later. His father passed away when Bob was only two and he was raised by a single mother. He graduated from John Marshal High School in 1946 and earned an A.S. degree from Rio Hondo College.

Bob was drafted into the United States Army on November 15, 1950. He received his basic training at Fort Ord, and was then sent to Camp Gordon in Augusta Georgia for Military Policy
training, advanced MP training and then served two years as MP Cadre.

Bob met his future wife, Janie on a blind date in February of 1952, while she was in nurses training in Augusta. Bob returned to Los Angeles after being discharged in November 1952. After waiting two years until Janie graduated, they were married on September 4, 1954. This year they had celebrated their 58th Wedding Anniversary.

They soon had a daughter, Karen born in October 1955 and 18 months later a son, Robert Joseph King, III (Trey) born in April 1957.

In June of 1960 he was hired as a fireman in the City of Montebello. He advanced in his career from fireman all the way to Chief at the time of his retirement in December 1989. During that time he was deeply involved with several associations related to fire prevention and safety.

Bob then ran for and was elected City Clerk in 1997 serving until November 2011. Upon his "second" retirement he had served the community of Montebello for a total of 43 years.

Bob's involvement in his community was extensive, his awards and honors were many but some of the most important things about him were his integrity, loyalty and commitment. Bob was a longtime member of the Lions Club of Montebello, having served as President and also Past District Governor for Lions International. His fellow Lions are his second family.

One of his proudest accomplishments was serving as Chairman of the Montebello Club's food baskets for the needy serving over 300 families during Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas for over 20 years.

With all that he found time for Sunday golf with his son, Bob, Best friend Bill and his son Dane.

His greatest joy came from his wife; Janie who he always said was the best thing that ever happened to him. In addition to his wife he is survived by daughter, Karen Joyce, her husband Jim, son Bob, his wife Patricia Black, granddaughter Melissa Joyce, grandson Jimmy Joyce his wife Michelle, grandsons Bob IV and Zachary King, sister Patricia Harper (husband Gilbert), several cousins, nieces and nephews. Bob is also survived by best friend and "honorary brother" Bill Walters.

Bob was thrilled on Christmas to hear he was to become a Great Grandpa.
