Russel F. Bahr, 94, of Lakeland, Florida, formerly of Peoria, Illinois and Winter Haven, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, Florida.

He was born May 12, 1918, to Charles W. and Anna W. (Lueders)Bahr in Peoria, Ill. He married Harriett R. Slater on March 21, 1942 in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons: Randolph (Vicki) Bahr of Peoria and Gary (Nancy) Bahr of Ooltewah, Tenn.; two granddaughters; two great-grandsons; nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by one brother: Wilbur Bahr, and his parents.

He was a senior project engineer for Caterpillar Inc. at the East Peoria plant, retiring after 43 years of service in 1980.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Engineers for 3 1/2 years, 2 1/2 of those years in Africa and the CBI Theatre.

He was a member of the 497th Engineers, Cypresswood Golf and Country Club and St. John's United Methodist Church, where he served on the usher committee for many years.

Private services will be held. Cremation has been accorded, with burial of ashes at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Scholarship Fund at Carpenters Estates, 1001 Carpenters Way, Lakeland, FL 33809.
