Henry left Canada and went to Highgate VT at the age of 18 possibly around 1824 and remained for 4 years. Then he went to Saranac NY around 1828 where he went into the lumber business and followed the same for over 40 years. He drove the first "ox team" that went over the route from Saranac Hollow to Goldsmiths, a distance of 14 miles up the "Rock Bottom" through a solid wilderness of primitive growth, with no sound to break the monotomy of the sighing forest save the scream of the panther or catamount, the bounding deer or hooting owl.(This was copied from Henrys obit)
Father of 12 children which 3 were still living at the time of his death in 1888.

My 3rd Great Grandfather
"Note" - Married Arvilla Anderson Feb.25,1840
"Note" - As Henry's obit he was born in Stanstead Canada which boarders the town of Derbyline Vermont. Both town boarder each other. One side of a street is Derbyline VT and the other side is Stanstead Canada and are within seconds of walking distance from each other. He remained in Stanstead Canada till the age of 18 then moved to Highgate Vermont that is about a hour west of Derbyline and remained a few years till he moved to Saranac Clinton County NY till his death.
"Note" - Henry came to Saranac about 1828. 1830 Saranac census shows Henry listed as head of household and another male 20-30 yrs of age and two females one 15-20 and the other 20-30 yrs of age. Henry did not marry his wife Arvilla till 1840 so the question is who are the three others living with Henry in the 1830 Census.
"Note" - There was a Phillip Bartlett living in Saranac area who died 1816. Phillip had 4 children and they also lived in Saranac. A few of his children left Saranac around 1859 for Wisconsin. Couple of his children remained in Saranac till their death. Do not know if there is a family connection to that family and my 3rd ggrandfather Henry?? Henry came to Saranac the mid 1820s.
"Note"- 1825 Canadian Census has 11 Bartlett Families living in the Stanstead area.
"Note" - Received Henry's death certificate from the Town of Saranac. List his dad also as Henry. Mothers name was not listed.
Note - ??? Philander Bartlett b.1811 Stanstead Canada. Find A Grave memorial #153351873 ??? Is he related to Henry ??? Work in progress !!!
"Note" - 1825 Census Stanstead Canada had 11 Bartlett families living in the area. Stanstead area - John , Amos , Benjamin ,Edison , Jeauthan , Collins. And within a few miles in Melburn Canada - Joseph , Wyman , Steven , Frazier , Willard.... These 11 families lived within walking distance to the US , VT border and other Bartlett families settled there also.
Attn. - "Note" - People have Henry's parents as Charles & Mercy (Henry) Bartlett of Onieda Co. NY. This is incorrect as there was a Henry Bartlett their son in Paris, Onieda Co. NY who I've seen in Census records that do not match to my ggggrandfather Henry Bartlett of Redford NY. Their son Henry lived and died in Onieda Co. and can find him in the 1850 - 1870 living with family members in Onieda Co.
Attn. - "Note" - Charles and Mercy son Henry b.1807 - d.1875 This Henry in 1855 owned a saw mill and 1855 and 1865 Paris, Onieda census have this Henry Bartlett living with his nephew Truman. And all this does not match my Henry Bartlett who was living in Redford at these times from mid 1820s till his death 1888 in Redford. Attn. Two different Henry's.
