Edith Mae (Scott) Minnick was born on June 5, 1876 in London, Ontario, Canada, to Charles Ferris Scott and Harriet Ida (Hall) Scott. On August 6, 1891--just shy of her 16th birthday--in Marinette County, Michigan, she married 23-yr-old Daniel L. Minnick, a mill-worker/farmer.

By September 1892, Edith and Daniel were living in Wells, Delta County, Michigan, where they had their first daughter, (Harriet) Irene. Another daughter, Iris Mae was born in 1894, followed by the first son, (Charles) Merle in 1897 and another son, Walter Lee in 1900.

According to family lore, Edith had long suffered from a disease, perhaps diabetes, and was weak when she gave birth to her third daughter, Florence Edith in September 1903. In February, 1904, Edith was under a doctor's care for "acute enteritis," which was soon complicated by "acute nephritis" and "uremic coma." Edith died on February 8, 1904 in Wells. She was buried on February 12 in Lakeview Cemetery, Escanaba, in block 36, lot 6.

Edith's infant daughter, Florence, did not long survive her mother, dying in April 1904 of pneumonia. Florence was buried with her mother in Lakeview Cemetery.
