Mayfield, Ky. -- James Peyton Blewett, 78, of Mayfield died at 6:20 p.m. Friday at his home.


He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mayfield, a retired shift worker in the shipping department of Continental General Tire, a U.S. Army Korean War veteran and a tennis instructor for 56 years.


Surviving are his wife, Susan Lancaster Blewett; three sons, Jeffrey Peyton Blewett of Hickory, James Christian Blewett of Huntsville, Ala., and William Gregory Blewett of Lone Oak; one daughter, Mary Beth Blewett Surlak-Ramsey of Venice, Fla.; two sisters, Joyce Higgins of Peoria, Ill., and Mary Thomas of Clarksville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. His parents were Peyton Hill Blewett and Lucy Carr Blewett.


Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Byrn Funeral Chapel in Mayfield with the Rev. George Culp Jr. officiating. Burial will be at the Rickman Family Cemetery.


Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
