BELDEN – Ruth Allen Dale Sneed, 83, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at her residence. She was born June 6, 1929, in Lafayette County, to Grady Allen and Ruth Anderson Allen. She lived much of her life in the Tupelo area, moving from Lafayette County, where she was a graduate of Yocona High School. An avid community activist, she served as the Sunday school teacher for the "Ruth Class" at Harrisburg Baptist Church for over 50 years, was a proud leader of the Merry Makers senior adult group and a member of the adult choir. She taught training union, Vacation Bible School, Girls' Auxiliary and served as officer for the WMU and various other church committees. Her hobbies included ceramics, embroidery and gardening, of which she was especially known for her beautiful roses.

A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Harrisburg Baptist Church with the Rev. David Langerfeld, Dr. Forrest Sheffield and the Rev. David Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Byron Sneed, whom she married May 5, 1947; her daughter, Lynda Bodenheimer (David) of Oxford; her son, Martin Sneed (Debbie) of Baldwyn; two brothers, Gayle Allen (Kay) of Denmark and Don Allen (Francis) of Oxford; two sisters, Mary Seabury of San Diego, Calif., and Pat Sheffield (George) of Tupelo; five grandchildren, David Bowen, Brett Bowen (Allison), Scott Bowen (Kristie), Martin Bodenheimer and Lauren Bodenheimer; five great-grandchildren, Coda, Ayla, Olivia, Preston and Piper Bowen; a son-in-law, Larry Bowen of Collierville, Tenn.; a brother-in-law, Covis Russell of Thaxton; and sisters-in-law, Marie and Joan Allen of Lafayette County.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Laura Bowen; her brothers, George, Dwayne, Gene and Gary Allen; and her sister, Marie Russell.

Pallbearers will be Brad Allen, Larry Allen, Jerome Sheffield and her grandsons, David Bowen, Brett Bowen, Scott Bowen and Martin Bodenheimer.

Visitation is 3 to 6 p.m. today at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors.
