Rex Lee Carlile passed away January 1, 2013.
Rex Lee was born October 10, 1924, to William T. and Velma Brannon Carlile in Mt. Vernon, TX. He was raised at Potosi with his six siblings, by his father. His mother passed away in 1933, when he was nine years old.
Rex married Joyce Branch Carlile on January 20, 1946, in New Orleans after he was released from military service in 1946. Rex was given an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy where he served as a gunner's mate aboard Minesweepers and Destroyers in the Pacific Theater. He swept the bay of Hiroshima after the bomb.
After his military service he returned to Abilene where he lived with his new wife and where they had one daughter, Brenda Carlile McHaney who is a resident of Odessa, TX.
Rex was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Carlile in 1986, his brother Milton Carlile, his sister Adele Durham, his brother Bernard Leon. Three siblings are still living; Christine Fillmon, Mernice Moore, and Gene Carlile, along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.
