Leonard Arthur Maphet was born the 4th of July in 1893 in Olcutt, Reno, Kansas to John Arthur Maphet and Maggie Missouri Lane. His father made the Cherokee Strip Land Run on 16 Sep 1893 into Oklahoma Indian Territory leaving his wife and child until he could get settled to go back to get them and bring them to Major Co where they homesteaded. Their first home was a sod house. Leonard was raised on the farm that they settled and attended Pleasant Valley Country school where he met the love of his life, Millie Madeline Decker. Her family lived within a mile from their farm and she and her brothers also attended the school. Leonard helped his father and other's in the Meno community build the First Christian Church in Meno and when he was 16 he became the first superintendent of Sunday School. He attended a Junior College in Helena and graduated in 1914. Leonard and Millie married in September of 1914 at her parents home near Lahoma in Major Co. They had their first home in Meno and there was born their first child Almeda B. 1917. They had a second child Charles Gerald born there at home in 1918. L.A. was manager of the COOP in the area. In 1920 the family moved to Enid and in 1922 was born Ethel Geneva. In 1924 Olive Louise was born. John Arthur was born in 1928 and Wanda Leigh was born in 1930. The baby of the family, Ronney Dale was born in 1932. The last 5 children were all born in Enid at home. L.A. started working for Brown and Bigelow traveling several states selling advertising to businesses and industries. He became their top salesman many times. He was very active in the Mason's and became their Grand Commander in 1948-49. He was also of the Scottish and York rite. He continued to be the superintendent of Sunday Schools for the Central Christian Church in Enid and retired from that position after 50 years. Leonard was a very civic minded person and involved in many organizations and his Church. Leonard loved his family! He was a pioneer and instilled hardworking ideals in his family that he learned from his father and mother.
