Edward T. Rose, 86, of Battle Creek, passed away Friday, January 7, 2005, at Heritage Assisted Living.
He was born March 9, 1918, in Battle Creek to Edward A. and Mathilda (Winters) Rose. Edward graduated from St. Matthew Catholic High School, Flint, Michigan, in 1936.
He married Janet M. Young on June 8, 1938, she passed away in 1996.
He was employed by Grand Trunk Railroad for 42 years, retiring in 1978 as Chicago Division Superintendent.
During W W II his occupation was essential to the war effort so he remained with the railroad.
He is survived by daughters, Myrna J. (Frank) Wallace, of Kalamazoo and Ruth A. (David) VanDeMoortel, of Austin, Texas; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, his sister, June Edwards, of Battle Creek and a special friend, Marion Knotts.
He was preceded in death by a son, Edward A. Rose and a sister, Ruth Matthews.
Edward was a member of Management Group of Grand Trunk Railroad, Life member of American Association of Railroad Superintendents, and Life member of United Transportation Union.
He enjoyed gardening, golfing, fishing, history, and politics. Edward had volunteered with the Salvation Army and United Way. He was a former member of Battle Creek Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce.
The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday.
Funeral Service 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2005, at Friends Evangelical Church.
Interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Tsunami Relief in care of American Red Cross or Friends Evangelical Church.
Special "Thank You" to Dr. Kurt Barrett for his excellent care given over many years.
